The "Oshawa dump" is the Region of Durham's Oshawa Waste Management Facility at 1640 Ritson Road North, just north of Taunton Road. It is the busiest public drop-off in Durham and the one most Oshawa, Courtice and Whitby residents use for a garage clean-out, a renovation, or the furniture the City's large-item pickup would not take.
Everything below — hours, the fee scale, what is free, what is refused — was read from the Region of Durham's own facilities page on October 20, 2026. Two things catch people out most: the site is closed Sundays and Mondays, and leaf and yard waste is no longer accepted at all.

Good to know
- Your vehicle crosses the scale on the way in and on the way out. Tell the scale-house staff what you are carrying; they direct you to the right drop-off area and you pay at the exit scale.
- Questions: dial 311 inside Durham Region or 905-668-7711 (toll-free 1-800-372-1102), Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- The Oshawa site runs a paint reuse centre: drop off or pick up good, reusable paint and stain free of charge, up to five cans per vehicle per day.
Before You Go
- Go Tuesday to Saturday; Sundays, Mondays and holidays the gate is closed. Summer Tuesdays stay open until 6 p.m.
- Load free materials (cardboard, electronics, paint and chemicals) as a separate trip or they are charged with the rest.
- Fridges, freezers and air conditioners cost $20 each on top of the weight fee.
- Concrete, brick, soil and rubble are 'fill' at $375 per 1,000 kg — more than double the regular rate.
- Credit or debit only at the exit scale; there is no cash lane.
Or skip the trip — we haul it from $55
A depot run means a truck, your own back, a line at the scale and a fee by weight. RJR Demo & Junk comes to you anywhere in Durham Region from $55 ($35 per cubic yard), loads everything — basement, garage or curb — and sorts it for donation and recycling, often the same day. A single appliance runs $55–$150, with no freon surcharge and no truck rental.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the Oshawa dump hours on Ritson Road?
The Oshawa Waste Management Facility at 1640 Ritson Road North is open Tuesday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Tuesdays only, from the first Tuesday in May until the first Tuesday in October, it stays open until 6 p.m. It is closed Sundays, Mondays and all holidays (checked October 20, 2026).
How much does it cost to dump at the Oshawa Waste Management Facility?
A load up to 40 kg (88 lb) is a flat $7. Above that it is $1.40 for every 8 kg, which works out to $175 per 1,000 kg. Appliances containing freon (fridges, freezers, air conditioners) carry a $20 fee each, and fill material such as concrete, brick or soil is $375 per 1,000 kg. Payment is by VISA, MasterCard or debit only — no cash.
What can I take to the Oshawa dump for free?
A load that contains only free materials costs nothing: Blue Box recyclables, cardboard, electronic waste (TVs, computers, phones, printers), bulky white Styrofoam, plastic election signs, and household hazardous waste such as paint, batteries, motor oil and propane tanks (50 litres or 25 cans per vehicle). The site also runs a free paint reuse centre, five cans per vehicle per day.
Does the Oshawa dump take mattresses, furniture and yard waste?
Furniture — including mattresses and box springs — appliances, carpet, drywall, wood, scrap metal and porcelain fixtures are all accepted at the regular weight-based fee. Leaf and yard waste is not: the Region stopped accepting it at every facility, so it goes out with the free curbside collection instead.
Can Whitby, Courtice or Ajax residents use the Oshawa dump?
Yes. The Region's facilities are open to all Durham Region residents, and the Oshawa site is the closest Region-run depot for Whitby, Courtice and Ajax. Pickering, Ajax and Whitby residents can also use the private Miller Waste transfer stations in Pickering and Whitby, which set their own rates.
Is it cheaper to make the Ritson Road run myself or call RJR?
For a few bags and boxes you can lift into your own vehicle, the depot wins at $7 plus fuel and an hour of your time. For a couch, a fridge, a basement's worth or anything you cannot lift alone, RJR Demo & Junk comes to your Oshawa home from $55 ($35 per cubic yard), loads everything, and donates or recycles what it can — often the same day. A single appliance is $55–$150, with no $20 freon surcharge and no truck rental.
