Durham Region Dump & Drop-Off Guide (2026)

Hours, fees and accepted materials last checked against the operators' pages on October 20, 2026. Confirm with the facility before a long drive.

The Region of Durham runs three public waste management facilities — in Oshawa, Port Perry (Scugog) and Brock Township — plus a hazardous-waste-only depot in Bowmanville. Pickering, Ajax and Whitby have no Region-run dump: residents there drive to Oshawa or use the two private Miller Waste transfer stations in Pickering and Whitby, which set their own rates.

Every Region facility keeps the same hours and the same fees, so the only real question is which one is closest. The hours, fees and accepted materials below were read from the operators' own pages on October 20, 2026; a bad surprise at the scale is usually a material that is no longer accepted, so check the refused list before you load the truck.

Before You Go

  • Sort a free-materials load (cardboard, electronics, hazardous waste) from a paid load: a mixed load is charged by its full weight.
  • Bring a card. Region facilities take credit or debit only; Miller lists its rates plus tax and a fuel surcharge.
  • Leaf and yard waste is refused at every Region facility — it goes out with the free curbside collection.
  • Household hazardous waste rides in its original, sealed, labelled containers, 50 litres or 25 cans per trip.
  • Region facilities are closed Sundays, Mondays and holidays; Miller's depots are closed Sundays.

Or skip the trip — we haul it from $55

A depot run means a truck, your own back, a line at the scale and a fee by weight. RJR Demo & Junk comes to you anywhere in Durham Region from $55 ($35 per cubic yard), loads everything — basement, garage or curb — and sorts it for donation and recycling, often the same day. A single appliance runs $55–$150, with no freon surcharge and no truck rental.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the dump in Durham Region?

The Region of Durham operates public waste management facilities at 1640 Ritson Road North in Oshawa, 1623 Reach Street in Port Perry (Scugog) and C22480 Brock Sideroad 17 in Brock Township, plus a household-hazardous-waste-only depot at 1998 Bowmanville Avenue. Pickering, Ajax and Whitby residents also use the private Miller Waste transfer stations at 1220 Squires Beach Road, Pickering, and 2000 Wentworth Street, Whitby.

Are Durham Region dumps open on Sundays?

No. The Region's facilities are open Tuesday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Tuesdays until 6 p.m. between the first Tuesday in May and the first Tuesday in October) and are closed Sundays, Mondays and all holidays. The Miller transfer stations in Pickering and Whitby are open Monday to Saturday and closed Sundays.

How much does it cost to dump garbage in Durham Region?

At the Region's facilities a load up to 40 kg is a flat $7, then $1.40 for every 8 kg over that ($175 per 1,000 kg), plus $20 per freon appliance; fill material such as concrete or soil is $375 per 1,000 kg. The Miller transfer station in Pickering charges a $10 minimum for 60 kg or less and $165 per tonne plus tax and a fuel surcharge; Whitby's Miller depot has the same $165 gate rate and $10 minimum.

Can I drop off paint, chemicals and batteries for free?

Yes. Household hazardous waste — paint, solvents, batteries, motor oil, propane tanks, pool and garden chemicals, fluorescent bulbs — is free at every Region facility and at the Pickering Miller depot's hazardous-waste area, up to 50 litres or 25 cans per vehicle. Keep it in sealed, original or clearly labelled containers. The Whitby Miller depot does not take it.

Do the dumps take yard waste or tires?

Leaf and yard waste is no longer accepted at any Region facility; put it out for the free curbside collection instead (the Whitby Miller depot takes it at $165 per tonne). Tires are normally free, 10 per vehicle, but the Region suspended tire drop-off at all of its facilities in 2026 because of an overstock — store them or use a retail recycling location until it is lifted.

Is it cheaper to go to the dump or to call a junk removal company?

If you have a vehicle, strong help and a light load, the depot is cheapest: $7 to $10 at the scale plus your fuel and an hour or two. Once the load needs a truck, a second pair of hands or a second trip — a couch, an appliance, a garage's worth — RJR Demo & Junk picks it up at your door from $55 ($35 per cubic yard), loads everything, and sorts what can be donated or recycled. A single appliance runs $55–$150.
